Accelerated TMS (aTMS)

What is Accelerated TMS?

Accelerated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (aTMS) is a treatment protocol in which multiple sessions of transcranial magnetic stimulation are delivered over a shorter period, often within a single day or a few days. Rather than the conventional approach of one session per day, aTMS allows for a full course of TMS treatment to be completed faster.

Traditional TMS therapy for depression entails daily magnetic stimulation for five days a week for 6 weeks. Accelerated TMS is based off the Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy™ (SAINT), an FDA-cleared accelerated TMS protocol for major depressive disorder that showed 90% remission rate with a significant reduction in suicidal ideation after completing 10 sessions a day for 5 days of treatment. The benefits of aTMS include quicker results and potentially enhanced effectiveness, making it an alternative option for patients who require rapid intervention.
